“Oh no, I have become one of them”. Every Trucker knows the chance you take by saying no to breaking Federal DOT Regulations in the trucking industry, you might just end up with a new job if you want to continue paying your bills. Well, my new job is I have decided for now, is driving for Lyft. For those that do not know who Lyft is, Uber’s competition in the share a ride market. To my surprise I am actually enjoying meeting all the cool people that I meet each day and my income has gone up, I was just going to do this until I found another job but now, I am not so sure I even want to look.
The down fall to all of this is if you think what cars do to truckers out on the road is bad, I am learning that what they do to each other in the city is brutal. My personal opinion, I do not see how anyone is still alive around Atlanta. You name the traffic infraction and I see it at least once on any giving night that I work. I think the police have given up and gone home because accept for a time or two, you never see them out tracking these desperados down.
I love a good challenge though and learning to pick up and drop off my passengers safely is definitely going to be that challenge. The other night I decided to start putting my flashers on for one thing my rider could identify me better, the other thing being that the cars around me could see that I was about to pull over and stop. What this netted me was the car behind me getting up on my tail and blasting his horn until I was out of his way. I think the world has gone and got itself in one big hurry. Maybe I should get a finger decal an place it on my rear bumper for all to see. This way I should fit right in, right?
Actually the truth here is the fact that drivers that play it safe will always be bullied by the drivers that have no time for safety. What or where you drive has no bearing on that fact. Blaring horn be dammed, my cargo these day be of the human and alive kind. Their safety will always come first in my world.
Anyway, the next time you’re stuck at a truck stop, hit me up for a Lyft Code to get a free ride out of there. Much cheaper than taxi’s for sure. I wish this service had been around all the years I was trucking and just sitting around at some truck stop bored to death. Everyone needs a break every now and then.
